Surah Rahman is the 55th surah of the Quran which consists of 78 verses. Muslims are encouraged to read it every day because there are so many virtues in it. Here is the Arabic recitation of Surah Ar Rahman with complete translation.

Surah Rahman

Rahman Surah Ayat 1-11

Translation Ayat 1-11

  1. (Allah) Most Gracious!
  2. It is He Who has taught the Qur´an.
  3. He has created man:
  4. He has taught him speech (and intelligence).
  5. The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed;
  6. And the herbs and the trees – both (alike) prostrate in adoration.
  7. And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice),
  8. In order that ye may not transgress (due) balance.
  9. So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance.
  10. It is He Who has spread out the earth for (His) creatures:
  11. Therein is fruit and date-palms, producing spathes (enclosing dates);
Rahman Surah Ayat 12-22

Ayat 12-22 Translation

  1. Also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-smelling plants.
  2. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  3. He created man from sounding clay like unto pottery,
  4. And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke:
  5. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  6. (He is) Lord of the two Easts and Lord of the two Wests:
  7. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  8. He has let free the two bodies of flowing water, meeting together:
  9. Between them is a Barrier which they do not transgress:
  10. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  11. Out of them come Pearls and Coral:

  1. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  2. And His are the Ships sailing smoothly through the seas, lofty as mountains:
  3. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  4. All that is on earth will perish:
  5. But will abide (for ever) the Face of thy Lord,- full of Majesty, Bounty and Honour.
  6. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  7. Of Him seeks (its need) every creature in the heavens and on earth: every day in (new) Splendour doth He (shine)!
  8. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  9. Soon shall We settle your affairs, O both ye worlds!
Rahman Surah Ayat 32-38

  1. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  2. O ye assembly of Jinns and men! If it be ye can pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, pass ye! not without authority shall ye be able to pass!
  3. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  4. On you will be sent (O ye evil ones twain!) a flame of fire (to burn) and a smoke (to choke): no defence will ye have:
  5. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  6. When the sky is rent asunder, and it becomes red like ointment:
  7. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

  1. On that Day no question will be asked of man or Jinn as to his sin.
  2. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  3. (For) the sinners will be known by their marks: and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet.
  4. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  5. This is the Hell which the Sinners deny:
  6. In its midst and in the midst of boiling hot water will they wander round!
  7. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  8. But for such as fear the time when they will stand before (the Judgment Seat of) their Lord, there will be two Gardens-
  9. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
  10. Containing all kinds (of trees and delights);-
  11. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
  12. In them (each) will be two Springs flowing (free);
Rahman Surah Ayat 51-59

  1. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
  2. In them will be Fruits of every kind, two and two.
  3. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  4. They will recline on Carpets, whose inner linings will be of rich brocade: the Fruit of the Gardens will be near (and easy of reach).
  5. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  6. In them will be (Maidens), chaste, restraining their glances, whom no man or Jinn before them has touched;-
  7. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
  8. Like unto Rubies and coral.
  9. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Rahman Surah Ayat 61-70

  1. Is there any Reward for Good – other than Good?
  2. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  3. And besides these two, there are two other Gardens,-
  4. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
  5. Dark-green in colour (from plentiful watering).
  6. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  7. In them (each) will be two Springs pouring forth water in continuous abundance:
  8. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  9. In them will be Fruits, and dates and pomegranates:
  10. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  11. In them will be fair (Companions), good, beautiful.
Rahman Surah Ayat 71-78

  1. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
  2. Companions restrained (as to their glances), in (goodly) pavilions;-
  3. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
  4. Whom no man or Jinn before them has touched;-
  5. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
  6. Reclining on green Cushions and rich Carpets of beauty.
  7. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
  8. Blessed be the name of thy Lord, full of Majesty, Bounty and Honour.

Tafseer Surah Ar Rahman

Surah Rahman , that is also called the bride of the Qur’an, is the 55th Surah of the Qur’an. That is located in the 27th Para. The name of this surah is one of the attributes of Allah Almighty. That is taken from the first word of the surah.

There is a difference of opinion as to whether the Surah Rahman is Mukki or Madani. In Surah Ar Rahman, some of the blessings of Allah Almighty for this world and in the hereafter have been counted. The nature and characteristics of resurrection and the method of reckoning of deeds have been explained.

After uttering every blessing. Then Allah SWT confesses to hia followers with the verse ” Fabi ayyi aalaaa’i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan”. This verse is repeated 31 times in the surah. And it is narrated in a narration from Imam Sadiq (as) that after this verse the phrase “ O Allah , I do not deny any of your blessings” should be recited.

Virtues of Surah Rahman

The surah Ar Rahman explains all the graces of the world and the hereafter from Allah SWT. Surah Rehman which means the Most Gracious is taken from one of the Asmaul Husna ‘Ar-Rahman’.

In this surah, Muslims are promised by Allah that they will be given abundant sustenance and blessings. Allah SWT always loves his followers. Therefore, it is highly recommended for regular reading of Surah Rahman especially on Friday nights.

According to the traditions, whoever recites Surah Ar-Rahman, Allah gives him a chance to give thanks. And if he dies on the same day or nigh. Then he will be considered a martyr.

Surah Rahman is also recited in most of the compassionate gatherings in Iran. The other name of this surah is “Alaa” (plural) which means blessing. Because the blessings of Allah are mentioned in it.

Surah Ar-Rahman is also called the bride of the Qur’an . This title is mentioned in some traditions of the Holy Prophet and Imams.

Ar-Rahman is one of the Makki Surah or Madani. There is disagreement about this. Some call it Makki while some call it Madani. Muhammad Hadi Ma’rifat , one of the scholars of Qur’anic sciences, has termed the evidence of this Surah Rahman being Makki as weak and considers Surah Ar Rahman as Madani.

According to him, this surah is the 97th surah revealed to the Holy Prophet in terms of sequential revelation. Whereas in the present sequence of the Holy Quran there is the 55th Surah which is located in the 27th chapter.

Other Features

Surah Rahman has 78 verses, 352 words and 1648 letters. And in terms of volume, this surah is included in the detailed surahs and covers about one-eighth of a chapter. The smallest verse of the Qur’an, is the 64th verse of Surah Rehman. The content of this surah can be divided into three parts:-

Worldly Blessings

Some worldly blessings such as teaching the Holy Quran, creation of jinn and humans. Creation of grass and trees, creation of the sky, rule of laws. Creation with the characteristics of the earth, creation of fruits, flowers, fragrant herbs, sweets. And it refers to the mingling of the salty sea and the blessings in the sea (verses 1 to 30).

Blessings of the Hereafter

After a brief reference to the torment of Hell. The blessings for the righteous have begun to be counted. The most important of which are the heavenly blessings. Suc as gardens, springs, fruits, beautiful and faithful companions, (verses 31 to 78)

Closing Words

As we know that Surah Rahman has many blessings. Including the Shafa of many disease. Therefore wo must recite it on daily basis. It is also recommended that we must remember it in our heart. So we can recite the Surah Ar Rahman when and where we find some spare time.
